Celebrating Women's History Month by honoring our distinguished members of The Links, Incorporated.
In 2008, the Arlington (VA) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, launched the Heart Truth Program with support from The Links, Incorporated national partner the American Heart Association (AHA). This community initiative was created to focus on educating women of color in Arlington about heart disease. The program set the stage for the inaugural Arlington Links Red Dress Event that same year on the first Friday in February, National Wear Red Day. The event attracted 50 attendees.
A decade later in 2018, Red Dress expanded and evolved to meet the needs of the broader community throughout Washington, DC, Maryland and Northern Virginia (DMV). In collaboration with DMV Links Chapters, the American Heart Association, and purposeful corporate sponsors, Red Dress has grown tremendously in scale and impact. Now an annual event, Red Dress is the largest free online heart health and wellness event for Black women.
In the past three years (2021 to 2023), the event has reached over 150,000 people worldwide. Experts and celebrities volunteer their time and expertise to the cause each year saving lives by raising awareness about women’s greatest heath threat — cardiovascular disease. Attendees join us on Facebook Live every National Wear Red Day, and Go Red to learn about the signs of heart disease, and how to make heart health and total wellness a top priority!
